We Knew It Couldn’t Last

A French press report says that a preliminary inquest has been opened following the discovery of suspect medical products during the Tour de France.  The products include hundreds of syringes and infusions.  No particular team has been targeted but of course L’Equipe is accusing Astana.  The AFLD found no banned substances but many “incongruous” items in the trash of the hotels where the Astana team stayed.  Among those items were sitagliptine, a diabetes medication, and valpromide an anti-convulsant medicine used to treat manic depression.

The Astana team issued a press release saying the news article is the first they’d heard about it. They say they “have nothing to hide and that the riders use no forbidden substances.  The team is confident in the result of analyses to be performed by the Paris laboratory and is prepared to cooperate.”
