Vos Grabs Second Stage Win in La Vuelta Femenina after Nerve-Wracking Finale

Marianne Vos took her second stage win in La Vuelta Femenina on Friday. It was a photo finish with Mischa Bredewold as the Dutch rider from Team Visma | Lease a Bike sprinted to victory in the penultimate stage of the Spanish stage race.

“It was so close, but I’m so happy with this victory. The finale was incredibly tough. The team did a great job again and Imogen’s lead-out was fantastic. I’m happy that I could finish it off for the team”, a proud Vos says afterwards. With the stage win, Vos can no longer be overtaken in the points classification and can secure the green jersey for the third consecutive year in tomorrow’s final stage.

Beforehand, the sixth stage in Spain seemed to be a day for the sprinters. The day before the climax in La Vuelta Femenina on the Alto de Cotobello, the fast women knew they had to get ready for the last chance to win a stage. Partly due to the efforts of Team Visma | Lease a Bike, the attackers remained within reach, allowing the focus at the finish in Baltanás to shift to Vos.

An attack attempt by the 37-year-old rider was initially parried, but Vos was still able to finish it off after a perfect lead-out by Imogen Wolff. Although it was a close call; Mischa Bredewold still came very close, but the finish photo showed that Vos was the stage winner. “I am incredibly proud of this victory”, Vos says.

The Dutch rider continues: “We knew we had a chance today and went all-in. The fact that Marion and Femke were in the big breakaway made it easier for us in the peloton. The team then put me in a great position. Imogen’s lead-out was perfect just like in my last win a few days ago. We are going to celebrate a little bit tonight and hopefully we will end La Vuelta with a nice stage tomorrow.”

Vos’ second win of the season marks the fifth for Team Visma | Lease a Bike Women in 2025. The rider thereby sharpens her own total to 257 professional victories. When Vos crosses the finish line on Alto de Cotobello tomorrow, she will crown herself winner of the points classification in La Vuelta Femenina for the third year in a row.
