Eschborn-Frankfurt 2026 Zimmermann, a National Hero

Frankfurt, Friday 1st May 2026

The 63rd edition of Eschborn-Frankfurt was announced as one of the most demanding in its history, due to the tougher route. It was also one of the most unpredictable, given the profile that could suit many riders. Once the early breakaway was caught, twelve men contested the victory, having escaped 34 kilometers from the finish thanks to an acceleration by Tom Pidcock (Pinarello-Q36.5) during the final climb of the Mammolshain, the last difficulty of the day. The group’s nervousness almost allowed the peloton to come back, but the attackers were able to arrive together in the final sprint. Wearing the national champion’s jersey, Georg Zimmermann (Lotto Intermarché) launched his attack from last place, building on the energy of his home crowd to cross the finish line victorious. By winning ahead of the British riders Pidcock and Ben Tulett (Team Visma-Lease a Bike), he became the first German to win Eschborn-Frankfurt since Pascal Ackermann in 2019, who also triumphed as the reigning German champion. History repeated itself and Zimmermann couldn’t be happier: “This is the biggest win of my career. My plan was to go into the final corner from behind and then launch my sprint. The pace was incredibly high and I thought I might have misjudged it. With 300 metres to go, I went for it with speed, and for the final 150 metres I was out in front. I put everything into the pedals and hoped no one would come past me. Fortunately, that was the case. I really wanted to win a race wearing this beautiful jersey – and it makes it even more special that it happened here in Frankfurt.”
