Primož Roglič is the athlete of the year for the second time in a row

LJUBLJANA, December 18, 2020 – Cyclist Primož Roglič, cross-country skier Anamarija Lampič and the men’s handball national team of Slovenia have been named the best athletes in 2020 by the Slovenian Sports Journalists Association. The most promising young sports personality is the discus thrower Kristjan Čeh.

Roglič, who, among other things, defended his Spanish Vuelta title and was second in the Tour de France, also won the best Slovenian athlete award last year. This year he received 61 votes and beat his friend and rival, the Tour de France winner Tadej Pogačar, who got 43 votes.

This is the first time Lampič is winning the best Slovenian athlete of the year. She succeeded climber Janja Garnbret, last year’s winner. Lampič won third place in the sprint general classification of the World Cup and was also the best in the sprints at the prestigious New Year’s Tour de Ski. In the traditional Sports Journalists Association vote, she received 81 out of 115 possible votes.

There were no prizes in the individual competition for second and third place this year.
