Doping Scandals Nothing New in Cycling

It’s been revealing looking into doping at the Tour de France.

Going all the way back to 1904, guys were cheating.

Maurice Garin and possibly several other riders took the train in the 1904 Tour de France. He was disqualified. He had won the 1903 Tour.  It’s thought that if he had to take one of today’s drug tests he wouldn’t pass. At the time he wouldn’t admit to the train incident but in later years he was said to have laughed about it as being a youthful indiscretion.

Some people thought Floyd Landis was the first to have had his winner’s jersey taken away but he’s had his share of company.
