Bais immediately takes back the green jersey and Maestri tries to surprise at the Tirreno Adriatico

In the 4th stage of Tirreno-Adriatico, Davide Bais in Abruzzo regains the green jersey he had lost yesterday in Umbria: he breaks away with Mirco Maestri and four other riders, earning valuable KOM points on the chilly Valico di Castelluccio. In the finale, Maestri remains in the lead with Kamp and Abrahamsen and the trio is caught only in the last kilometer in Giulianova.

Captain Maestri: “I’m sorry because several times in my career I’ve been caught just a short distance from the line; sooner or later, I hope to go all the way. On the other hand, I’m happy because I’m improving and I could help Davide regain his leadership in the climbers’ classification.”

Bais: “It wasn’t easy to find the right action this morning, my brother Mattia and of course Mirco helped me […] I strongly want this jersey but I’ll also give a hand to our GC men Fabbro and Piganzoli in the next two decisive racedays.”

Sports director Jesús Hernández: “We achieved the main goal of the green jersey and attempted the big target; the finish was a bit challenging for our fast wheels, but it’s a good day that shows Team Polti Kometa’s seriousness and condition in this race…”
