Jordi Meeus wins the Brussels Cycling Classic

Jordi Meeus has celebrated his third victory in the last two weeks, winning a close bunch sprint in Brussels.

After 206 kilometres, a few centimetres on the uphill home straight proved decisive in favour of the 27-year-old, who had secured the win with a tiger leap. Jordi thus celebrated his fourth victory of the season, already equalling his career-best tally from last year. He has now taken Red Bull – BORA – hansgrohe’s win tally to 21.
He is clearly in fine form with just one week to go before the Copenhagen Sprint. Jordi will line up as the defending champion for the second edition of the race.
“As I approached the finish line, I was pretty sure I’d won, but I could also feel the others closing in. That’s why I was relieved when I finally crossed the line and just managed to make it. It was quite an uphill stretch and I’d been caught in the wind for a moment, so I didn’t get going until quite late, but I think I handled it pretty well.”

“We wanted a late breakaway group that would be pretty tired by the time they reached the hilly section and would only have a small lead. That worked out brilliantly. Our main priority there was to be well positioned. After that, though, we wanted to put pressure on the peloton, so I asked the boys to really go for it. I saw a strong commitment from the whole team. And then Danny did another perfect job for Jordi and we won.”
