The first day of competition at the UCI E-Mountain Bike Cross Country World Cup has finished at the WES Bologna Appennino – presented by Suzuki Hybrid. The top woman rider of the day on the cross country circuit that winds its way through the Castiglione dei Pepoli and Camugnano localities was Nathalie Schneitter / SUI who finished ahead of Melanie Pugin / FRA and Karen Pepper / GBR. The first of the men was Jerome Gilloux /FRA who left Joris Ryf / SUI e a Francescu Maria Camoin / FRA to compete for the two other steps on the podium. The second and final round of the first Italian stage of the WES World E-Bike Series 2021 kicks off at 15:00 tomorrow.
Castiglione dei Pepoli (BO – Italy) June 5 2021 – The WES Bologna Appennino – presented by Suzuki Hybrid more than lived up to the expectations of electric mountain bike enthusiasts with a very high standard of competition from the 40 riders representing 8 different nations in the first Italian stage of the UCI E-MTB World Cup.
Victory in the women’s section went to Nathalie Schneitter from Switzerland of the team Trek Bosch who completed the cross country circuit (a total of five times) in a time of 1:04:46 before being followed over the line by Mélanie Pugin del BH E-Racing Team later (the French girl had a broken chain). The third step of the women’s podium went to Karen Pepper from UK of Lapierre team.
The men’s competition was fast and furious too with 30 riders lining out at the start before the French pilot Jerome Gilloux of the Moustache raced first across the line in a time of 53:53 after fending off stiff competition from Joris Ryf of the Swiss team Bergstrom Werksmannschaft just 13 seconds behind the winner, and also Francescu Maria Camoin representing the Specialized team. The first of the Italian men’s riders was Martino Fruet of Lapierre Trentino team who finished the five laps of the cross country circuit in 57’10”, to take fifth position overall.
Tomorrow brings the second and final race in the WES Bologna Appennino – presented by Suzuki Hybrid with the two French riders Jerome Gilloux and Melanie Pugin donning the leader jerseys. The starting shot will be at 15:00 with the prize-giving ceremony following the race in Castiglione dei Pepoli.
