Tyler Hamilton has announced his retirement from cycling. He was caught in an out of competition doping test prior to the Tour of California in February. He’s admitted to having used DHEA, a steriod banned in cycling, but which is used to treat depression in homeopathic medications. He says depression runs in his family, with his sister, mother and grandparents suffering with it. Tyler says he’s been battling it for many years and has been undergoing treatment for the past 6 years. It’s not clear whether he’s admitted to doping during the Olympics. He’s also dealing with his mother battling breast cancer and a divorce from his wife Haven who stood by him through his many ordeals.
He’s grateful for his years in cycling, the people he’s met and the places he’s seen. He’s planning to take some time to straighten out his life and see what the future holds.
