Trentino: Wiggins vs. Nibali

It’s the most anticipated duel of the upcoming Giro d’Italia: 2013 Tour de France winner Bradley Wiggins against Italian Vincenzo Nibali, who stepped on the third podium spot in Paris and has now set his sights on the famous maglia rosa. 15 days earlier Wiggins vs. Nibali will be the main theme of the 37th Giro del Trentino, a great show on a traditionally tough and selective route from April 16th to 19th.

For the second year in a row, Italian channel RaiSport will provide an overall 6-hour live coverage, one and a half hour per day.

2013 Giro del Trentino will start in Lienz, Austria, with a doubleheader on day 1: a short road stage in the morning and a team time trial in the afternoon. Wednesday April 17th will present the first uphill finish in Vetriolo Terme, followed by a medium-mountain stage finishing in Condino – Valle del Chiese and ultimately, on Friday April 19th, the final showdown will take place on the final ascent to Sega di Ala, another first-appearance climb.

GC riders will have plenty of chances to show up an make battle, and Trentino will be an interesting testing ground for Bradley Wiggins’ shape: the Brit conquered all the stage races he had took part to in the set up to his successful Tour de France campaign, but got no previous experience at the Giro del Trentino. On the other hand, Nibali is very familiar with the Italian stage race, being a major protagonist in several occasions and having clinched the overall title back in 2008.
