Rugby Dopes More than Cycling!

According to a study from the French Agency for the Fight against Doping (AFLD), rugby is the top sport affected by the problem of doping. 

According to a report by the AFLD Françoise Lasne (director of the analysis department of the institution) on the inquiry into the effectiveness of the fight against drug cheats, rugby is the sport most affected by the scourge of doping in France. 

“The most encountered doping substance is cannabis”

“I’m interested in sports in which at least 400 samples have survived (394 for basketball) in 2012 to have reliable statistics. Eight disciplines meet this criterion. If we take into account all molecules banned presently on the list of the World Anti-Doping Agency, the sport that gives the highest percentage (positive cases) is rugby. then comes football and athletics, triathlon, basketball, cycling, handball and swimming. “

However, in the positive controls identified by the AFLD about the world of rugby: “The most encountered doping substance is cannabis. A dopant indirect insofar as it … does not improve directly the performance.”  

Françoise Lasne therefore excluded cannabis sample results. Again, rugby appears to be the sport most affected by the scourge of doping “to athletics, triathlon and cycling, swimming, football, basketball and handball.”
