Possible New Doping Detection

An article on Cycling News has interviewed a Spanish doctor who is a famous cancer specialist.  He says that the way some cancers are detected could be used to also detect doping. Some doping products disappear quickly, in a few hours, but they leave a genetic footprint which could still be detected up to five years afterwards.

He’s working on a project to find new ways to detect doping. Since EPO was developed to help cancer and AIDs patients, it would be a natural fit for him to do research in this direction. He believes the changes in the body due to EPO usage can be extremely threatening to one’s health in a previously healthy person without cancer.
