“We knew the course well and we knew it was better to be one step ahead. There was a lot of action, which worked in our favor. We controlled the pace to our advantage, especially thanks to the work of Paul (Lapeira), who already won here last year and allowed us to anticipate the race moves and be present in the first breakaway. Eventually the peloton came back together, and when another breakaway formed in the final, I was able to seize my chance again—this time all the way to victory. I’m really happy to reward the work of the whole team. My parents and loved ones live in the region, they came out to watch, and it feels great to raise my arms in front of them. I’m living the season of a lifetime.”
