Jordi Meeus has won the inaugural Copenhagen Sprint, writing a new chapter in cycling history. The one-day race in the Danish capital made its debut directly on the UCI WorldTour calendar – and Jordi Meeus is the first rider to have his name etched into the winner’s list.
The race covered 235 flat kilometers from Roskilde to the heart of Copenhagen. The spotlight was on the finale, set on a technical city circuit that combined tight corners with fast straights – the perfect setup for an exciting sprint showdown. That’s where the race truly came to life: as the bell rang for the final lap, a crash on the finishing straight split the peloton and disrupted the chase. Suddenly, everything was wide open.
The last breakaway rider was only caught 600 meters from the line. Jordi Meeus kept his cool amid the chaos of the finale, kicked off his sprint from deep in the pack, and surged past his rivals with impressive top-end speed. In the end, the Belgian claimed a commanding victory by a full bike length.
It was Jordi Meeus’ second WorldTour win in just a few days: “After six tough days of racing in Switzerland, I felt a bit tired, but I still had some power left in the legs. The final was extremely demanding and really hectic. Ideally, I would have been a few positions further up going into the last corner. But I also knew there was a headwind, and I hoped positions would open up — which it did perfectly. I still had a good kick, and I’m really happy I could take the win.”
