“I’m very happy, it’s the result I was hoping for, of course, but I didn’t expect to have such a big lead. It’s really a wonderful surprise. I think I managed this time trial very well. It’s my first WorldTour victory in a discipline I really enjoy, one I’ve been working on since my junior years with my coach and my team. The race isn’t over, the Tour of the Basque Country is a demanding event. There are still five days to go, with some very tough stages, but I’m in contention. It confirms the work I’ve put in since the start of the season, as well as my recent bloc training in Nice.”
