XDS Astana Team rider Henok Mulubrhan, racing for the Eritrean national team, won the final stage of the Tour du Rwanda, finishing in Kigali. It marks Mulubrhan’s first victory of the current season. Earlier this year, Henok finished second on a stage of the Tour of Oman, as well as second once and third twice on stages of the Tour du Rwanda.
“I was very motivated before the start of this stage. Unfortunately, throughout the week I faced various moments of bad luck, which prevented me from fighting for the overall victory. Nevertheless, I really wanted to win a stage, and yesterday I was close. So today our whole team started with the goal of taking the win. In the end, everything went according to plan – I launched my sprint at the right moment and took the victory. It’s an important success for me, and I want to thank the Eritrean national team for their support this week, as well as my XDS Astana Team: every day Alexandr Vinokurov and the coaches supported and encouraged me and believed in me. That means a lot to me”, – said Henok Mulubrhan.
In addition, Henok Mulubrhan won the green jersey in the points classification and finished 10th overall in the General Classification of the race.
