He was on a solo training ride near where he lives. He broke 5 ribs, has a pneumothorax and a fractured lumbar vertebra.
“Fortunately, Chris is stable and did not sustain any head injuries, however, scans have confirmed a pneumothorax, five broken ribs, and a lumbar vertebrae fracture, for which he will undergo surgery this afternoon.”
He previously crashed before the 2019 Dauphine but hadn’t quite regained his form since then.
Froome won the Tour de France 4 times and his contract with IPT was set to expire at the end of this season. Since he’s now 40 years old, this could be the end of his cycling career.
