2013 Tirreno-Adriatico Stage 2

Team Saxo-Tinkoff made it safely through the rainy marathon stage

There awaited the riders in Tirreno_Adriatico a true marathon as today’s second stage featured 232 km, from San Vincenzo to Indicatore. Saxo- Tinkoff remained in the field throughout the day and arranged in the pouring rain to protect the captain, Alberto Contador from accidents and crashes.

At the finish was a mass sprint where Matt Goss (ORECA-Green Edge) took an impressive victory. Mark Cavendish finished in the top-10 and retained his overall lead in the race. Saxo-Tinkoff’s sports director, Philippe Mauduit, commented, “Our primary goal was to keep the Alberto out of trouble, which succeeded. So I can only be happy with the effort. The same procedure applies in the morning, where we must stick to the front and play our cards safely before the terrain changes to our advantage, “concludes the French sports director.
