Stage 1: Brest – Plumelec

Stage 1 from Brest to Plumelec was a typical Breton scene –

non-stop hills and wind. After a day of small breaks, the stage

was won by Spaniard Alejandro Valverde in  a sprint. 

Many of the favorites were near the front in the sprint. 

Americans Christian Vandevelde  finished 18^th and George

Hincapie was 29^th.
